    Dig,

We have an excellent rose garden here in town, called the Volksgarten. I always seem to go there either a week too early or a week too late each year. I will try this week.

Thanks Mocha. I hope you are able to find some good wild rose flowers. I have found them to be good subjects too.

    Mocha,

I like the spring green pathway; it is quite heavenly. Those are some very cute baby Coots! Those white and red/pink flowers are beautiful. I like the background too. Your damselfly is stunning...wow...great job with that one.

    Subject: A Non-Event

People that know me, know I like to attend events to document the activities. This time I went to a Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) Mexican celebration in a public city park. To my amazement, they wanted a $25 admission fee for each person. So instead of attending this "non-event", I walked around the perimeter of the park documenting this closure and requirement for admission. I haven't found an answer to my question or not, whether this was legal to fence off a public space. I had never seen anything like this ever. Very few other people paid the admission fee either for what I saw for about two hours. I don't know if people came later or not. So enjoy seeing what I saw.

Photo No. 1 - There was a car show. So I looked over the fence and saw this. I also saw no people on the grass near the performer's stage, which would normally be filled with people.

Nice rainbow shots, Dig. But why use f/9? 😁

Cinco de Mayo event was weird. What were they offering to justify a 25 bucks entrance fee -- apart from all the front seats at the staged event?

According to exif, some of these photos were even at f/11. I think you might open up a little and you can reduce ISO. Unless you have a good reason that I havent twigged. 😀

NIce flower photos, Sandy. I sense you must be an active gardener! The little EF40mm used to be a favourite of mine, as it is miniscule and I have never cared for the 50mm focal length; but its small size is compromised by the EF-RF convertor my R6 needs, so I use the RF35 f/1.8 in its place these days. I find both lenses excellent.

Thanks David. I was much more into digging and planting decades ago. Now the knees and hips make me primarily enjoy them instead. Amazing how long some peonies live. And the colony of thalictrum and astilbe started around 1994. Hellebores are favorites too. I believe in long lived, low maintenance, and bug and deer resistant plants!

The camera wasnt Canon however the vintage Vivitar 70-210 lens came equipped with a Canon mount so perhaps I can be forgiven the fact for this to be a SonyxCanon hybrid result.

    Sandy,

Those are pretty purple and yellow flowers. Thanks for identifying them for us also...that is, the Meadow Rue and Golden Ragwort.

    David,

Thanks for noticing the rainbows pictures. 😀

I used F9 and F10 for the rainbow shots because I was zooming in and out, and I wanted to have good depth of field. With rainbows a person doesn't have time to set up for the lowest ISO. I could have done it that way, but this camera handles ISO levels very well, all the way to ISO12800. Once there was a plane in the background. Unfortunately, the trees were in focus but the plane was not. With higher focal lengths, depth of field can be tricky.

I hope I never see an event like that again. Yes, it was very weird.

I used F11 to keep the depth of field I wanted, at the chosen focal lengths. For example, for Photo No. 9, I focused between the tree and the performer's stage and I got everything in focus. Without looking at a depth of field chart, I guess at what is appropriate and again don't have to be concerned about ISO levels, especially in bright sunlight. I often study my photos during post processing, so I have an idea of what I want. I'm often disappointed when something is a little blurry.

A little edit: I should let you know also I normally use autoISO, so I can concentrate looking at the composition and have both enough shutter speed and depth of field. I used to take pictures using aperture priority. Yes, I could do it that way using ISO100, but it makes no sense. These newer cameras are amazing with the high ISO levels. When in bright sunlight the ISO levels are lower as expected and when I'm in shadows of trees etc., of course the ISO levels are higher. But that's totally OK.

    Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

This was the first for me this year of the Damselflies, it was the walk between the two lakes where they were hanging out.
